Middle Schools offer a wide variety of programs for 7th and 8th grade students. The sports available in 7th and 8th grades are volleyball, soccer, football, wrestling, cross country, basketball, track, cheerleading, and debate. 6th graders may participate in track and spring conditioning.
Student Eligibility for Participation in Interscholastic Competition and Extracurricular Activities in Middle Schools
KSHSAA Eligibility for Athletics:
Students shall have passed at least five new subjects of unit weight, or its equivalency, the previous semester or the last semester of attendance.
Eligibility for Extracurricular Activities – USD 500 Requirements:
Eligibility regulations for the middle schools, grades 7 and 8, shall govern the following extracurricular activities: cheerleading, debate, drill team, all athletic teams and participation in any activity or contest involving students from two or more different schools.
Argentine Middle School requires all students participating in sports, or cheerleading to purchase a sports ticket or an activity ticket.
Current Eligibility (Weekly):
To be eligible for participation in specified extracurricular and any interscholastic activities, the student shall not have received a grade below a “C” in any subject. While ineligible, students are encouraged to raise their grade. Eligibility shall be determined each Friday. The eligibility week shall extend from the following Monday morning through the next following Saturday.
Accumulated Eligibility (Semester):
To be eligible for participation in specified extracurricular and any interscholastic activity during the current semester, the student shall have passed at least five subjects of unit weight, or its equivalency, the previous semester of the last semester of attendance. Credit earned in a USD 500 sponsored summer school may be counted as part of the “prior semester” except as limited by regulations of the Kansas State High School Activities Association.
Beginning of School Eligibility:
Students out for sports will be eligible until September 15 if they meet the requirements of the state and previous quarter requirements of USD 500.
Physicals and Insurance:
Before a player can go out for a sport, including practice, he or she must have a physical, concussion form and a form indicating type of insurance coverage or a waiver on file. All forms are available in the school office.
